In case you couldn’t tell from a random scan of my most recent posts, I am getting more and more into photography. Do I even write posts anymore? It feels like I post photos more. So, in honor of the fact that this isn’t really a photography blog (yet), I’m going to write about this morning’s photography adventure instead of posting a photo.

This morning I went out to photograph the sunrise. Only by the time I got out and all set up to take some pics, it was already pretty bright outside. The sun hadn’t risen yet but you would never know if from how much light there was. Lesson learned: in the Vegas desert everything is brighter, even the night. I took a couple of pictures but didn’t really get any that made me happy.

After a little bit of frustration I decided to just drive out to the lake bed where I used to hang out with friends when I first moved here. I have never actually been there during the day since we were always spinning fire and taking long exposure photos when my friends and I would go there. It looks different during the day, not nearly as stark. I drove around some more and ended up in this tiny town that had abandoned mines, a ghost town, and backed up to a stunning canyon. Suffice it to say that I was impressed. I was so impressed, in fact, that I treated myself to an Egg McMuffin on the way home.

Sometimes I really miss Sacramento … like when I’m looking at pictures like this that I took after a fun day and a wonderful meal with some great people:

What does it say when I click on a random link to read an article claiming that Bush said some stupid things and I actually take it as factual for a moment until I realize it’s coming from The Onion?

I just got back from a short trip to Los Angeles to visit a friend. It was tons of fun. I love southern California.

Of all the times I’ve been there, though, this was probably the most stereo-typical experience ever. We stayed in an off-beat hotel, saw celebrities living like regular people, hung out at the beach, saw a commercial being filmed on the streets of downtown LA, did lots of shopping, sat in LA traffic, and even got to experience an earthquake. What more could have been added to make the stereo-type complete?

Now I’m back to good ol’ hot and sweaty Las Vegas. Blah.

For the 4th of July I got the hell out of Las Vegas and headed back to Sacramento for a trip. The weather was so nice. I even almost needed a sweater on the evening of the 4th.

While hanging out with some friends we started playing around with my camera. We played around with long exposures and light painting. I love my camera!

I was just thinking about those pictures of Britney’s crotch as she’s getting out of Paris Hilton’s car. (I have no idea why I was thinking about that)

If I was given confirmation that anyone’s private parts were touching my car seats without any clothing between their pooter and my car, I’d rush right out and get my car steam cleaned.

But that’s just me. Maybe Paris likes it that way.

Mental note: If hell freezes over and I’m offered a ride in Paris Hilton’s car, turn it down!

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding in Santa Cruz, California. The wedding was beautiful. My friends who were getting married looked so happy. It was on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The thing I love about these friends who got married, though, was that even though it was a traditional wedding, they threw in unusual elements to emphasize that they are not ordinary people. The wedding had an underwater theme and all us bridesmaids were supposed to be mermaids.

There were so many photos from the event but the only one I’m going to share here is this one of a whale skeleton:

All of us bridesmaids had to walk along a path past this whale skeleton on our way up the aisle for the ceremony. If that doesn’t emphasize the underwater theme, I don’t know what will.

grandma's dresser

I was able to take a bunch of photos of my grandma’s house while I there for her funeral. I’m so glad because all her things are being sold off and her house will no longer be My Grandma’s House. At least this way I will be able to remember it as it was, even down to the details.
